On June 18, ABC recognized the nations’ top 2007 construction projects and safest construction firms during its prestigious Excellence in Construction Awards program and dinner at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.
“ABC is pleased to present these innovative and industry-leading projects of 2007 with its Excellence in Construction award,” said Bill Fairchild, 2008 ABC national chairman and president of R.W. Murray Co., Manassas, Va. “This year’s winners were exceptional examples of construction expertise that once again demonstrate that ABC members are the driving force behind some of our nations’ highest-profile projects.”
ABC’s Excellence in Construction awards program recognizes the quality and innovation of merit shop construction and honors all members of the construction team, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. This year’s winners, selected from entries submitted from across the United States, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unusual challenges, completion time, workmanship, safety and budget. The Louisiana winners were: Landis Construction Co, LLC for the Trinity Lutheran Church in New Orleans and the architect/engineer was Waggoner/Ball Architects; and Turner Industries Group, LLC for the GO-1 South Turnaround in Norco and the client/owner was Shell Chemical Company.
The 2007 National Safety Excellence Award winners were selected from ABC member firms achieving Platinum status in ABC’s Safety Training and Evaluation Process program. Selection criteria for the national safety winners included each member’s self-evaluation scores, lost workday case rates, total recordable rates, and interviews conducted by members of ABC’s National Safety Committee. The four Louisiana winners were: Performance Contractors, Inc.; IES Industrial, Inc.; Triad Electric & Controls, Inc. and Vector Electric & Controls, Inc.
“We salute these safety award winners for their outstanding safety records and proven dedication to construction workplace safety,” said Fairchild. “Creating safe work environments is top priority for ABC. ABC provides member firms with safety training programs, information and an annual safety training and evaluation process that serves as a benchmark and guide to maintaining an effective construction safety program.”
