During the month of October, thousands of Americans across the country join together to share their passion for ending breast cancer and to give hope to those facing it. Raising awareness of the disease is one of the main goals of the American Cancer Society (ACS).
On October 11, 2008, the ACS hosted their annual “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk in Metairie. All Star Electric, Inc. joined the thousands of supporters early Saturday morning on Lakeshore Drive for a beautiful stroll along Lake Pontchartrain. The 3.1 mile walk was a non-competitive event that raised over $80,000.
Gail Vial, All Star’s service office manager, spearheaded the group All Star called “The Pink Stars.” One of Gail’s close friends has a family member that was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Gail felt compelled to show her support by gathering her own family, friends, and co-workers to make the walk and raise at least $250 for the cause. When Todd Trosclair, CEO of All Star Electric, found out what she was doing, he offered to make a company match to the personal donations that had already been collected.
The Pink Stars exceeded their goal and presented $305.00 to ACS on the morning of the walk. The Pink Stars will be out again next year and plan to start early with their donation drive.
